Hey Visitor. Welcome.
I am Lesly T. Federici. This is my home on the internet where you’ll learn about me and what I do (and then some! LOL) . I am involved in several things. But all of them have one common thread: people. I enjoy working, educating, helping, and promoting people. These are the areas:
- People promotor with U Smile Radio
- Educator with the Green RN, and Childbirth Ed
- Advocate for good heath with Shaklee and peace of mind with the Life Events Coverage Plan
- Wellness Coach
- Reiki practitioner and Master
I like to use “u smile” simply because when I do things well with you, or another, helping in some way, you smile – a very good positive, natural reflection of success! Wouldn’t you say?
Here’s my story:
My professional background is in the medical field. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be a nurse. In my youth however I loved to paint and thought I would become an artist – I did and am, but in my own way. My father was an excellent artist and we would have great conversations about it.
I dropped out of high school when I was 16 years old. I traveled to Europe – Italy and Austria. My brother Jeff died in a train crash and my mother got money from the accident – she sued the railroad company for defective train signals (something like that 0 I was young). She used the money to send me to Europe. I don’t know many moms who would do that. But, she did and off I went and had an incredible experience. I tried to stay but I was unable to find work. I was 17 then and when I returned, I had a very different perspective about life, history, and myself (I think that was my mother’s plan).
I then met a young man and fell in “love” and moved to Maine with him. I was there for two years when I realized what an abusive partner he was. I worked in shoe mills and paper mills in a smaill town call Solon, and Skowhegan. I even sold Avon- THAT was hilarious! One day as I worked my paper mill job looked at my toothless co-workers and thought “there must be more than this”. So it wasn’t hard to leave that man either. So I returned to New Jersey.
I went back to school and got my GED. I got a part time job in a hospital as a nursing clerk. Then I started the long process of going back to school, taking every remedial class you could think of to get me primed for college level classes. I finally after a few years in a community college I transfered to Rutgers University and graduated with a BA in Museum Studies, and honors.
I worked at the Newark Museum in the education depatyment organizing art classes for adults. At one time I planned on being a curator – but I didn’t like touching objects with white gloves on in fear I would drop and break thousands of year-old artifacts. YIKES!
I then opened my own art studio out of my apartment where I lived. That was so exciting! I knew several upcoming artists back then and would show there work. I did all the PR, invites, and organized the receptions. I was written up in local newspapers. That was an excellent and very creative time for me. I would have three shows a year- moving the furniture around and back again. I did this for two years.
Then I fell in “love” again and met my now husband. Everything changed. My dreams of being an artist and gallery owner went out the window for marriage. I soon saw that I needed to have a more dependable income so I returned to school to become an RN (registered nurse) something I had thought about years ago. I graduated and got my first job as a labor and delivery nurse. Then I got pregnant and created the best thing of all – my son.
Soon after my son was born, I was diagnosed with a genetic disorder that caused partial blindness in my eyes. My mother was also visioned impaired. By the time I was diagnosed, my mother had died of cancer and my son was only two. This changed my life dramatically. I could no longer drive, or work in a clinical environment as a nurse again. I was no longer painting.
I became a certified childbirth educator which has been a great career over the years. I also earned certifications in hypnosis, Reiki, and in wellness coaching.
Two years ago I got an invitation to start my own radio show – U Smile Radio. I was scared silly. What would I talk about? Where would I find my guests? Well, I went for it and didn’t let my insecurities get the best of me. U Smile Radio has grown into a fun, entertaining program. I partnered with No Strings Attached E News online magazine where I have had, and will continue to have interesting and incredible guests.
Now. This cracks me up. Here I am, a wite, married woman who listens to classical music, has a son, and legally blind, is now interviewing hip hop singer celebrities such as Gary “Lil G” Jenkins of Silk, SCOLA of Dru Hill, CeCe Peniston, and other fabulous actors like Pete DeLorenzo and writers on my show. And my Co-Host for some of these shows is Manny Yarbrough, a famous Sumo Wrester! LOL! LOVE it! Love it! I want to be the next Larry King – in a skirt!
So mow I have also created a new direction using my medical background – The Green RN. I am becoming an advocate for chemical free products because I believe they contribute to illness such as cancers, allergies, asthmas, maybe even autism. With that came a calling to be an advocate for the right of self protection. I think the world is just plain “nuts” and education is key to self-protection.
So. That’s my story. Everyone has one to tell. Thanks for taking the time to read it…
