For the past few weeks I have been writing about mindset on different levels; taking action, making changes in your /my life, and insights on communication. These are all functions of our mind – thinking and emotions.
Yet on an incredible microscopic level, there is another universe that we are affecting and just beginning to understand, or view differently – the human cell. It’s the human cell in all its beauty and mystery that makes up our body, to be you and me, physically.
One of the components of the human cell is the mitochondria. The mitochondria to the cell, is like our heart to our body. Without the mitochondria the cell would die because it’s the powerhouse of the cell, the creator of cellular energy through chemical reactions occurring within its membrane. If you watch the video below, the mitochondria is the large, gray colored object shaped like a wrinkled bean .
Imagine trillions of cells living side by side in a community, just like you and I. These cells have “jobs” like you and I do, places to go, places to travel to. They communicate with each other in ways I don’t know if we’ll ever understand.
Who takes care of them? We do. Directly through our lifestyle, what we eat, and what we think.
Candace Pert PhD. author of “Molecules of Emotion” discovered that cells display emotion and have a memory!. Now I know if you’re reading this you may say “ba-hum bug!” But let’s think about this.
Why, when someone gets ill we encourage positive thinking, the use of positive affirmations, a change in lifestyle that is less stressful and more positive, relaxation techniques? Why does it work? In some cases illness has been reversed. Why when some people have received organs from a donor their personality changes and demonstrate attributes of the donor?
Because our thoughts and how we choose to live our lives influence our personal, cellular world.
So, are you leaving your body behind? Are you so busy running your brain that your body- your cells – are dragging? Are you forgetting them? What are you doing to keep your body and mind in harmony?

Thank you so much for posting this.
I love what I heard from Candace Pert on the Secret.
Trillions of cell are doing their job every second, that is so amazing. The human body is a miracle.
Yes, I agree with you the mitochondria in itself is amazing!
That video – WoW – Wow and wow and wow!

Absolutely stunning! What an awe-inspiring, computer-generated, animated 3D depiction of the incredible complexity that’s our sub-microscopic biochemistry in action.
It so happens Lesly, that I used to teach this stuff to kids, and now I, like you, try to care for patients whose bodies are deranged in all sorts of ways on the inside. It’s true, our lifestyles are harming us, me included.
On a positive note, now for just one day before I die I want to be a ribosome, or a mitochondrion or a growing DNA strand or a newly duplicated protein molecule, even a helper cell in the cell membrane, just like in the video.
But only if that totally captivating soundtrack’s there to listen to as I go about my wonderful work. Right now listening through stereo headphones on full bore it moves me to tears.
Because I want to make those lil’ guys have a much easier job from now on. Thank you so much.
Awesome post and video, Lesly.
The complexity, connectivity and functionality of each cell is mind-boggling, and while seemingly quite separate from how we see ourselves as complete bodies and minds, it is true that we influence cellular expression with every thought, feeling and step we take. I love the poetic expression of our cells as having jobs to do, places to go and ways of communicating beyond our imagination!
Thanks for the reminder that our cells are not just listening in but in fact carrying all of our emotional history, and that our cellular memory can be influenced when we are prepared to do the shifting work it takes..
Great post!

What an absolutely wonderful post and amazing video! How easily we forget (or ignore) the fact that we truly are an interconnected community, from the micro-cellular to the global and universal, with no one member independent from all the rest.
I’m reminded of an incredible video by author Peter Russell called “The Global Brain”. It’s about 35 minutes but well worth the watch. I’ve found segments on YouTube, but you can watch it in its entirety at http://www.theQuantumAttraction.com/authors-russell.
Lesly,
It’s always great to get scientific validation for what we all practice. Nice to know that “positive thinking” does create change on a cellular level. There’s a lot of research coming out now on how talk therapy creates changes in brain scans, so I know that more will be coming out over time.
Thanks so much,
Adam

Hi Lesly,
Great post! I agree completely…positive thinking has a huge impact on our lives, even on the cellular level.

Hi Lesly, what a great way to explain the power of positive thinking. I have always know that positive thinking has a significant impact on our well being, but I never thought about it as impacting the microscopic level. Very interesting. You post is making me think about this again. Thanks for sharing and making these gray cells work!

Hey Lesly,
I love this idea. I know that the power of our thoughts and our words are so powerful in our lives. As Bruce Lipton says… We can change the DNA of our body through the thoughts that we think (and end up being the words you say).
Make it a great day!
God Bless,
