Water is a resource that is becoming more and more of a concern for lack of it, or how tainted it is with chemicals…
This is another resource I absolutely love – National Geographic’s The Green Guide. Wonderful information and educational tidbits.
For instance, are you aware of how much water is used for our food? It’s not so much of what we use personally in our home (although that does contribute some) – but for food processing!
Here is a informative and fun quiz to take to see what your general H2O usage is, and what you can decrease in use to conserve more.
Watch this video- it’s an eyeful! It will REALLY get you thinking about the food you eat and how it’s processed, not to mention the chemicals used . I think I am going to look into growing my own garden now for sure .

This past week-end was Shaklee’s annual Global Conference and it was something to see and experience. People from China, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and of course the USA were there.
We really are becoming a global society and what will that do as our world gets smaller and smaller. Will there ever be one leader of the world? Ha – just a thought … It was amazing to see these countries represented!
I’ve only been a Shaklee distributor for a short time and this year I really got wrapped up in the excitement – how can you not ( if you have ever gone to any live conference you know what I mean).
The theme of the conference this year was “The American Dream” and the new “Dream Plan” to help and inspire Americans to dream again after so much has been taken away – employment, savings, and so on. Interesting and oh so timely because I wonder what’s happening to the American culture? Never before in history (maybe during depression years) has there been such mistrust, lives disrupted financially, and a sense of doom and gloom. But today as I watched the Sunday news – “This Week with Christiana Amanpour”(she’s excellent) and one of her guests said we (Americans) were beginning to live in a culture of hate, pointing the fingers, blaming others, and so on.
Do you think so? I don’t really want to believe that, but times are hard. So, it was interesting that the theme of this conference was tapping into what’s happening now (which is smart marketing)- scary. But, you can always look at your class as half full or half empty, right? Then out came the overall message of a preventative health movement for the future. I buy into that as an RN, and with my own health in mind as well as my family’s – this conference was playing my song!
I think I have mentioned that many illnesses can be prevented and I agree 100% with this philosophy. I believe in the Shaklee products (yes, I use them- my hair stopped falling out after using their shampoo)especially after the Landmark Study they did about 2 years ago. They mention it in the video below.
So, my post today is to shamelessly share with you a company I absolutely love and am proud of. I am very honored to be part of the Shaklee family.
Let me just share with you the new products released at the conference too. And they have totally redesigned their compensation plan which I am not going over here because I am learning about it myself!
Products:
1. They just released the FIRST approved FDA label claim of a “cholesterol reducing” natural product containing sterols. Sterols come from plants, nuts, grains, and block cholesterol in the GI tract from being absorbed into the bloodstream where it clogs the arteries. What happens is the cholesterol passes as waste. Very nice alternative to Lipitor/statin medications that have side effects.
2. Vita – D3. Current research shows that many Americans are deficient in vitamin D which is VERY important for our heath, bones, skin.. In fact strength training and vitamin D3 strengthens bones – very significant for the aging population, and children as well are not getting the VD they need.
3. Get Clean Water Pitcher. Now you can have clean, drinkable water for 365 days and ranks higher in screening out pollutants such as lead and a multitude of other chemicals. This pitcher is certified to do this where other leading brands are not.
There’s a whole bunch more news, but I shall spare you! You can always go to the website and check it out. They are upgrading it so I don’t know if you can access it yet. You can email me too at info@leslynotes.com if you have questions.

And on the News …

A few years ago I had a patient who lamented over the beautiful handwriting he once had. He was an elderly man and at one time in his life well traveled. His hands shook regularly. When he wrote you could barely read it. Yet, he missed his fine calligraphy … you could see it in his eyes when he looked at his writing.
He was on an incredible amount of medications for several medical problems he had, diabetes, heart problems, and a few other things. I know from professional experience there are interactions between medications. And for all the years this man had been seeing his care givers, none of them checked into it.
Let me show case some statistics from the US Government:
psychiatric disorders 26% in adults and 20% in kids
depression 20 million, anxiety 40 million
1 in 10 Americans take an anti-depressant
psychiatric disorders are expensive (in ‘06 $200 Billion)
8 million US kids take ADD medication (1 in 10)
asthma affects 16 million adults, 7 million children
asthma causes 3600 deaths a year
6000 children between the ages of 5 to 14 die each year. #1 cause – accidents. #2-cancers.
So okay, let’s add up the craziness:
increase in our kids, college kids, and adults being medicated
way out of reach medical costs for care
thousands of families and adults in the US have no health insurance
the “healthy” food we eat is very questionable
the quality of the water we drink is very questionable
high unemployment – so many heart breaking stories
increased lay-offs
no job security
90% of chemical exposures happen in our home
obesity, diabetes is on the rise
illnesses on the rise are not due to an actual dis-ease, rather from lifestyle choices
most illnesses can be prevented
medications and product recalls becoming more common
people are seeking more natural remedies and alternative health and wellness solutions
Now what does this add up to?
Three words:
Proactive Self Care
Now more than ever we need to believe we, you and I can care for ourselves the best. We can be proactive and concentrate on doing those activities that bring wellness, peace of mind into our lives.
“You know, Bob” I said to my patient. ” One of these drugs you’re taking has a side effect. Tremors. I suggest you go back to your doctor and have him review the medications you’re on and have them adjusted or if you don’t need some anymore, take you off them.”
“I didn’t know..” said Bob.
My thoughts were of course he didn’t know because one, no one told him and two, we have become complacent about asking questions about our heath – we blindly put it in the hands of others.
It’s becoming apparent these days that everything in our lives is really in our hands. We can no longer live counting on others to make our lives right or the way we want it to be. Social changes and pressures are making us more self-reliant and that’s a good thing.
Several weeks later I got a call from Bob. He was excited to tell me he had been writing letters for weeks to people he had not communicated with for quite a while. He loved to write letters. He had spoken to his care provider and they reviewed his medications and eliminated quite a few. His tremors went away.
Some interesting concepts in this video – more to think about …
