Where’s Your Mummy

October 26th, 2010

mummyWell, it’s that time of year when the ghosts come out at night, the gouls hang out in the graveyard or or in that old, boarded up house down the street  ….

Little boogie men and girls will be knocking at your door for goodies!

I have to tell you years ago when I was nine I think, I went to a Halloween party and it scared the crap out of me so much that I celebrate it modestly now. So this is as far as I’ll go …. bah hum bug! LOL!

I rather celebrate the humor these two guys can only bring when meeting the mummy..

Classic Abbott and Costello ….

Happy Halloween! Enjoy!

The Art of Aging

August 28th, 2010

window

This week I’ll be celebrating 56 years of being alive.

I remember when I was 20 thinking I had a long time to go before reaching my 50’s. But today it’s a blink of an eye from that day.

Years passed never really thinking about aging and yet it began on the day I was born and time lasted forever. Now that I am in my 50’s (56) in many ways I feel like my life is just beginning again. Much of this has to do with the current social and economic trends happening now.

It used to be, as I was taught growing up, finish school, go to college, get a good job, work hard, earn a good income, raise a family, retire, and live out your life doing the things you always wanted to do. It’s not the way anymore as I am not looking forward to retiring but continuing to reinvent myself to keep up with social and economic trends. This is a good thing!

It is in this path of thinking that I feel I have a new life. The difference now is I’m the boss! No one is telling me what to do. I have a clean canvas in which to create my new life. It’s scary yet thrilling and full of promise.

Although my body is showing signs of aging – a wrinkle here and there, it’s okay.  I think for me, learning to accept aging gracefully as this couple did in the video will only provide, or make room for more thoughts of how I am going to create my future, not worrying about growing old.

It is part of life and so far my journey through it has been a good one.

The Circle of Giving

Make sure you also visit Lesly RN

I remember when as a  child learning about nature in school and the Bumble Bees – how they pollinated flowers, spread the seeds around, sucked the nectar of the flower and buzzed all the way home to their comb to make honey – honey I would scoop from a jar and spoon over my pancakes in the morning for breakfast. Yum…

It was a wonder to me then, but now through adult eyes I understand better the circle of giving on all levels of life.

So last week when I visited my friends website , The Robin and Judy Show, they broadcast a message to all who listened – a call to action for everyone to contribute something, somehow, on some level,  to enrich the lives of others in need around the world. They also listed several organizations to investigate.

I couldn’t ignore it (I would have felt guilty listening to their conversation then doing nothing).

So, I thought about what I could do and came up with this idea … I like to draw, paint, and I  include my drawings (or photos) with my blog posts. That way all the images are mine and no copyright boo boos happen.

Many people have expressed liking some of my artwork. So I decided to make it available to you through cafepress.com and any sales I get (believe me I don’t make much because I pay for the product and the printing costs) I’ll donate 10% to Mission Feeding to start.

I see this as a win-win. For you, you’ll have something fun and usable, and I’ll be able to give to others, and enjoy the fact that someone likes my art – you have NO idea what a rewarding feeling that is. My art is my heart.

Honestly, I have been ignoring it for too long. The Internet makes it possible to share it boldly.

Here ya go: Lesly’s Bags for Causes (and other things)

Thank you Robin and Judy!
