This week I’ll be celebrating 56 years of being alive.
I remember when I was 20 thinking I had a long time to go before reaching my 50’s. But today it’s a blink of an eye from that day.
Years passed never really thinking about aging and yet it began on the day I was born and time lasted forever. Now that I am in my 50’s (56) in many ways I feel like my life is just beginning again. Much of this has to do with the current social and economic trends happening now.
It used to be, as I was taught growing up, finish school, go to college, get a good job, work hard, earn a good income, raise a family, retire, and live out your life doing the things you always wanted to do. It’s not the way anymore as I am not looking forward to retiring but continuing to reinvent myself to keep up with social and economic trends. This is a good thing!
It is in this path of thinking that I feel I have a new life. The difference now is I’m the boss! No one is telling me what to do. I have a clean canvas in which to create my new life. It’s scary yet thrilling and full of promise.
Although my body is showing signs of aging – a wrinkle here and there, it’s okay. I think for me, learning to accept aging gracefully as this couple did in the video will only provide, or make room for more thoughts of how I am going to create my future, not worrying about growing old.
It is part of life and so far my journey through it has been a good one.
If you liked this post, I’d like to know what you think! Thank you in advance!

I’m 51 now, I feel like 25 and I look in the mirror and see a old guy. I cannot dream of retiring in 14 years. I figure I will retire when I die. Nothing sounds worse to me than to stop doing something I enjoy, and I love to work, create, be doing something. It is great these 2 moved into art, I could see myself doing more art in my latter years, say 75 up!
God Bless,
Great post about real life.
Everyone will get old.
Bruce
Hey Bruce,
Thank you for stopping by and your comment! Age is a state of mind. For a while it seemed like the Baby Boomers were being cast aside, but there is a resurgence in their importance as a generation – especially on the internet…
You work is beautiful. It touched me
Leslie,
First, congratulations on celebrating so many wonderful years on this planet! Second, thank you for this insightful post and video. I’m 52 and I feel as if life is beginning anew. I refuse to sit back or stop creating. Life is awesome and should be celebrated at all ages.
Here’s to another 50-70 years! Let’s make them the best!

Lesly,
Love the video and the perspective it brings. Beauty does change over time and each age DOES have it’s own beauty.
Great post, you’re preaching to the choir! At 52, I’m in better physical shape then ever, though there are aches and pains I don’t remember having before
Aside from that, I’m more productive and creative than I’ve ever been. And I feel blessed to have chosen a profession, relationship coaching that I can continue to practice and improve at for decades and decades!
Thanks so much,
Adam

What a great post to end my Friday. My wife cellibrates her birthday this Sat, and mine follows in a couple of weeks. The big 40. My wife and I made a commitment just a few days ago to change the way we live, so we can enjoy every day, and it has been wonderful! Thanks for sharing
Love it Lesly. I’m now 62 years young and I love what you said “I am not looking forward to retiring but continuing to reinvent myself to keep up with social and economic trends. This is a good thing!” Yes it is a good thing. Thank God I discovered personal development 7 years ago. It has changed my life and particularly my outlook on life dramatically.
Thanks so much for sharing this,
Michael
Hey Michael.. I think life just gets better! Personal development is a big part of it! Thanks for your comment …
This is a fantastic video to have shared with us. What a wonderful expression that this couple has done as part of their life journey. Getting old at any age is always complex and multilayer as we transform into a more mature form of ourselves. I guess the biggest challenge at any age is to be well with it and just accept ourselves for the greatness that we are at any age. Human beings are such fickle creatures you got to laugh.
Hi Rebecca,
I know – that’s what I thought when I saw this video. It was so inspiring to me. Glad you liked it!
Lesly -
What an absolutely wonderful post and video — one that needs to be seen by so many in this youth-related culture of ours. Just like Alice and Richard, I see myself constantly rediscovering myself. Even now at 58, I feel that in many ways my life has hardly begun. There is still so much yet to be discovered, explored and experienced. When one gets to the point at which that is no longer the case, then it is all over.
Steve, the 50+ crowd is far from dead.. in fact we are being revived! We are a force to be in awe of!
Ahh…you young things! Getting older is a bit of a surprise for me. When I was 18 I thought life wouldn’t worth living after I was 30…and now I just feel that life without grandchildren would be a very sad place to be.
Twilight years…I guess so, but I am not the last leaf on the tree yet, and I have so much to do still. Goals to reach, dreams to achieve. 63 in November and I still feel there is so much more to come.
Lovely post, Lesly,
Thank you

Hi Peter.. life is really such an amazing journey.. and what we think and perceive is so much a part of our growth and development too… that’s why we get so much wiser and better with time …
To a point I am in agreement. Aging is mandatory so you need to adapt to it. But the Mind is different. Your video reveals two individuals who acknowledge their “Rotting Bodies” but their minds are youthful and exploring. That is what keeps you young in an old sagging body.
Aging is a strange phenomenon, isn’t it. When you are young, you don’t give it a second thought. It almost feels like you will never be 50.
Once you reach 50 things look a little different. But just like the couple in the video I believe that it is good to find the positives in your situation. Enjoy every moment.

Lesly, That movie was absolutely beautiful and so inspiring. My new web site, http://www.HealthyBabyBoomersNetwork.com is all about enjoying life and love, our bodies and our health, as we age. I shared your blog and the video. This video is a must-see for everyone in our culture.

Hello Lesly
Very nice post.
I am 52 so I know exactly what you are saying.
